Summary

The Field Manager is the event manager for the field of play and everything that touches it. The role runs the venue-side operation from buildout through breakdown: the 22-bay hitting deck, the repeating changeover cycle, the crews that execute it, the vendors who supply it, and the guest movement on and off the playing surface. It is a management job, not a labor job — scheduling, coordination, standards and execution across a 50+ person staff.

This is also a touring build. The operation designed in Athens is the operation that gets loaded onto trucks and rebuilt at the next venue, on a tighter clock, with a new local crew. The turnaround between stops is as much a part of this job as show days are.

Core responsibilities

1. Leadership & operations

  • Acts as the primary operational leader for the field of play and all field-level areas, ensuring smooth day-to-day running from first block to last.
  • Leads field crew, bay attendants, ball crew and area leads within a 50+ person event staff — assignments, briefings, breaks, shift handovers and accountability.
  • Coordinates between departments — production, hospitality, ticketing, ball crew, venue and grounds, videoboard, and vendors — to align goals, pacing and resources.
  • Drives performance through scheduling, position coverage and resource allocation against the run of show.

2. Buildout / setup & preparation

  • Oversees setup of the bay kit, hitting deck, targets, netting, turf protection and all field-level guest areas.
  • Ensures equipment, signage and materials are in place and meet Topgolf and MELT brand and service standards before doors.
  • Works with Topgolf, the rental company, venue grounds staff and other vendors to deliver a ready-to-open environment every day.
  • Runs the pre-open walkthrough and reports readiness to the Director / Producer.
  • At each new venue, adapts the build to a different field, different access points and a different set of venue rules.

3. Breakdown / post-event / tour turnaround

  • Manages nightly reset and end-of-run strike: equipment struck, inventoried and stored properly, turf and stadium surfaces restored, areas ready for next use.
  • Owns the strike-to-load window on the bay kit, including overnight crews, working to a hard departure deadline with zero missing inventory — the next stop’s build starts the moment this one is on the truck.
  • Maintains safety standards throughout breakdown.

4. Event management

  • Plans, coordinates and executes the field portion of the run of show — block starts, PA cues, warnings, clear, sweep, reset and reload — holding cycle time every block, all day.
  • Manages guest entries, exits and tunnel flow on and off the playing surface, including separate VIP and general admission routes.
  • Executes field-level programming: group outing turns, Golden Ball delivery, target and feature moments, and partner activations on the field.
  • Works with marketing, logistics and guest services to deliver a consistent experience.
  • Tracks cycle performance, incidents and guest feedback nightly, adjusts for the next day, and carries those learnings into the next stop.

5. Support & training

  • Delivers onboarding and daily training for field staff — safety on an active hitting deck, ball handling, turf rules, radio discipline and changeover procedure.
  • Mentors and coaches area leads to run their own positions and crews.
  • Uses clear operational metrics — changeover time, field-clear time, incident count — to measure performance and drive behavior.
  • Builds repeatable documentation so a new local crew can be trained fast at the next venue.

Skills & attributes

  • Proven event, field, site, stage or tournament operations management at scale — stadium events, festivals, golf tournaments, touring or major experiential builds.
  • Comfortable leading 50+ event staff.
  • Touring or multi-market experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills; can direct large crews at speed, safely.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing demands, including weather.
  • Knowledge of turf protection, stadium operations and golf equipment handling preferred.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving under time pressure.
  • Comfortable with run-of-show documents, reporting tools and performance metrics.
  • Able to work load-in, overnight and strike calls. Available to travel for tour stops, or based in an SEC, Big 12 or ACC market.
