The announcement is imminent within 30 days. It’s slated to launch May, 2014. It will be SEC Commissioner Mike Slive’s crown jewel of a brilliant tenure as Commissioner. It will also be a tribute to the collective vision of former Commissioners Roy Kramer, Harvey Schiller and Dr. Boyd McWhorter. Back in 1991 & 1992, when Commissioner Kramer first laid out his vision for a Conference Championship, the first-ever, there were howls of decision. Not anymore.
The SEC Network will rival their conference sister networks, PAC12 and Big10, but the major difference is the SEC will be backed and distributed by ESPN. This will immediately give it much more scale, clout, and sell-ability. It will be interesting to see how & who they program and sponsor it–in any form, it will be massive.
